UPDATE on the Stone Family

Hopefully you had a wonderful Independence Day celebration.  Well, the Stones didn’t necessarily, but, praise God they are alive and recovering.

We want to share with you a short report personally written by Gwen Stone from her hospital room.

Hospital stay, July 2020. Because 2020 is the year that keeps on giving!!

We were headed home to Idaho from visiting my family in Western Oregon. We were in Hermiston and discussing places to get ice cream. That’s the last thing I remember before waking up to lights and sirens and the kids saying, “Hurray! The ambulance is here!!”

The kids all walked away from the crash! Praise God!!!!!!! David and I had to be life- flighted to Portland. He had to have a breathing tube because they were worried about him aspirating his own blood. David had multiple facial fractures and on Tuesday, he had surgery to repair them. After the surgery, he no longer needed the breathing tube! So he is out of ICU and we are both recovering! Praise God!

Stones at hospital
David and Gwen Stone share a moment of prayer after the accident.

I have a fractured pelvis, broken ribs, a bad gash on my head, and a concussion. David has a traumatic brain injury. He knows what day it is, where he is, and what happened. He even knows current information like where our children are. He forgets things like washing his hands after using the bathroom. He often needs something repeated to him several times before he gets it. We have both been recommended for an in patient rehab facility, which is a rehab run by a hospital. I’m thankful that we will get to be together!

Some have said, “Why would this happen to you if you are going to the mission field to do God’s work?”

To this I respond with, “What the enemy meant for evil, God will use for good!”
God will use this situation for His kingdom and  His glory! I’ve had the opportunity to share how God has been working in our lives until now with many nurses and hospital staff!

You want to know something weird? We were listening to the story of Cameron Townsend and how he and his wife were involved in a terrible airplane accident. Well, that accident took place close to a Bible College in Peru, and Cameron asked his friend to take pictures of the mangled plane. Because of that accident and the pictures and story surrounding it, Cameron Townsend was able to start JAARS, Christian Aviation, to support missionaries working in remote areas. We had just listened to that part of the story when we arrived in Hermiston!!! Then, moments later, we were in a severe car wreck!!!… I wonder what God is planning?

We are praying that we will be able to go to Idaho for rehab this week!!! We need to be closer to our kids!

Friends please continue to pray for the Stone family.

Pray for

  • Continued recovery and healing for David and Gwen.
  • The children and their emotional health and that they might soon be reunited with their parents.
  • Encouragement for the family to know that God is in control and His timing is always the best.
  • Their support, they still are seeking funding for their health insurance.

Thank you, dear friends, for supporting the Stones at this time with your prayers.  If you would like to personally write a note of encouragement and concern to them, I’m sure they would be happy to hear from you, even if you are not known to them. Their email address is – [email protected]
